I Am in the Wind
For Bart
Do not stand in sorrow where I was. I am not there.
I am in the wind — the same wind that surrounds you now and crosses oceans,
that carried us to explore new places, new people, new ways to love.
Every breeze that touches shores both distant and familiar
reminds the world that we were here: curious, open, grateful.
I am in the waves — their rhythm of tide and light, the salt in the air, the endless return.
We walked here so many mornings as we fell in love,
the water never the same twice, yet always familiar.
The waves forgive everything. They break, they return, they begin again.
I am in the forest canopy — in the thick green breath of the earth,
where everything is alive and calling.
You'll hear me in the percussion of warm rain,
and in the pause between thunder and birdsong.
That stillness is where grace lives.
I am in the mountains — the open, endless sky,
the steadfast giant that stands guard above our home.
There, the light and shadow move in perpetuity, yet always feel safe and reassuring.
You taught me that stillness can be vast:
that humility is not silence, but a reverence for how small we are
in the face of so much beauty.
I am in the laughter that heals, in the table that always has room for one more.
I am in every act of care that asks for nothing back —
the hand extended without reciprocity,
the burden quietly lifted without acclaim,
the forgiveness of even those who wound.
When you see love made real through compassion,
gentle, steadfast, and true, that is me. That is us.
When you can no longer find me in the places we loved,
look at the space between them.
I am in the wind, and I am in the stillness.
In the movement and the quiet.
In the beginning and the return.
Not gone. Rather, everywhere.

Everywhere love continues to live.

A Different Kind of Sound

In many cancer centers, patients ring a bell to signify the end of treatment or a milestone reached. But the lived experience of cancer is far more complicated. Some cannot ring the bell yet. Some ring it too soon. Some never get the chance at all.

"Carry the Wind offers a different kind of sound — not a declaration of ending, but a continuation."

A sound that travels — like love, memory, and wind — to those who need it most. Through this project, wind chimes are gifted to hospitals, infusion centers, caregiving spaces, and directly to individuals who need comfort. Each chime carries a message of solidarity: that strength, love, and presence move with us, quietly, gently, and continuously.

We honor those in treatment, those in survivorship, caregivers and families, and those at the end of life — carrying forward the love and energy that surround them in sound, in memory, and in community.

A note on donations: We are currently working with a large charity to have Carry the Wind under their 501(c)(3) umbrella. While we would be honored by your early support, until that relationship is finalized, donations are not yet tax deductible. We will notify you the moment that changes.

This Is Only the Beginning.

Carry the Wind began with a poem — I Am in the Wind — written to honor a life lived with compassion, humility, forgiveness, and grace. Bart's words remind us that love does not end. It moves, like air.

The idea for Carry the Wind grew during Bart's cancer journey, through many conversations about the need for moments of comfort and connection for people facing illness.

We are currently building the initiative and speaking with established charities about partnering or hosting the program as it develops — so we can begin reaching patients, families, and caregivers as soon as possible.

Together, we carry the wind.
